Oshino Hakkai "Oshino Hakkai" refers to a group of eight spring-fed ponds that are the source of underground water from Mt. Fuji. They were designated as a national natural monument in 1934, and in 2013, they were registered as part of the World Heritage Site "Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration." Oshino Hakkai was once used as a site for purifying oneself through water during the Edo period by believers of Fujiko (a Shinto sect dedicated to Mt. Fuji). Due to the high water quality, preservation environment, and scenic beauty of the ponds, they were designated as a national natural monument by the Japanese government. Along the Shin-nasho River, which runs through the heart of Oshino Hakkai, there are approximately 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees lining the banks, stretching for about 400 meters. Please enjoy the scenery of the cherry blossom avenue at your leisure, immersed in the gentle spring atmosphere.
